Never Get on Another Diet Again— Achieve Wellness Through Lifestyle Changes
“Research shows that 95% of diets fail in the long run, while sustainable lifestyle changes lead to lasting weight management and improved health outcomes”
I’ve been on quite a few diets myself, and like most people, I never stuck to any of them. Now, I’m not here to throw shade at diets—though some are pretty ridiculous, ever heard of the cabbage diet? The truth is, I did learn something from each one. But ultimately, I realized that diets aren’t what we need. They can be restrictive, unsustainable, hard to follow and most have an end date. Plus, they don’t take into account the other crucial aspects of health—like managing stress and getting quality sleep.
We have to start looking at health as more than just what we eat or how often we hit the gym. Over the past 10 years working as a lifestyle coach using the CDC approved national diabetes prevention program at various universities, clinics and non-profits, I’ve learned that true wellness requires a whole-body and mind approach—or better said, a holistic approach because everything is connected. You could eat the cleanest diet in the world, but if you’re constantly stressed and miserable, it won’t matter. You could have six-pack abs, but if you’re depressed and lack meaningful relationships, your health is still suffering.
So instead of focusing on diets, let’s shift our focus to daily choices that truly impact our overall well-being. Stress can be just as damaging to your health as eating a cheeseburger every day. This is where lifestyle changes come in.
Small Choices, Big Impact
Every day, you make choices. The goal is to become more aware of them and how they affect your health. And no, lifestyle changes don’t mean you can never have dessert again. Instead, it might look like:
• Sharing your dessert with a friend instead of eating the whole thing.
• Enjoying sweets on the weekends instead of daily.
• Choosing dark chocolate with less sugar as a sweet treat.
These little changes might not feel life-changing in the moment, but over time, they add up—to better health, a longer life, a lower A1C, or even reversing prediabetes. That is huge.
Unlike diets, lifestyle changes have no end date. They’re there for you every single day. Every moment, you have the opportunity to make a better choice, and as you do, you become a healthier, more vibrant version of yourself.
I’ve seen it happen over and over again with the hundreds of people I’ve worked with. The person they were at the start of their journey is completely different from the person they become a year later. And as a health and lifestyle coach, there’s nothing more rewarding than witnessing that transformation.
